Memorial Day Weekend: Day 1

Luckily for us, our wedding anniversary is at the end of May, which means we always have Memorial Day Weekend to do something special. Since we celebrated the big 1-0 this year we decided we should do something a little extra special. Years ago (before knowing we'd be living in Maine, swimming in school debt, and have a 4th baby on the way) we planned on going to Hawaii for our 10th. Well, that definitely wasn't an option this year (our 12th...okay, 15th maybe !?). However, we had a wonderful, meaningful and memorable time renting an incredibly cute cottage out near Acadia for the weekend and celebrating our marriage & growing family. When the tide went out, the ground was covered with shells and little sea creatures. We had a great time finding treasures and spotting tiny crabs hiding in the sand.

We stayed at the cottage all day and then took a quick drive up Cadillac Mountain to watch the sunset. We talked about waking up early and watching the sunrise (Cadillac Mountain is the first place to see the sunrise in the US). However we quickly came to our senses and decided dragging three very tired/cranky children (and one tired/cranky mama) up a mountain at 5 am was a crazy, crazy idea.
