My mom and sister Emily have been in t0wn for the last week and a half. One of the first of many places we went was Fort Knox. It was built in 1844 to help protect the Penobscot river from the British. It ended up seeing two periods of military action, the Civil War and the Spanish-American War. Nearly one million dollars was spent to build Fort Knox, named after Major General Henry Knox.
